Uterine Fibroids Symptoms
While women with fibroids complain about the pain and discomfort associated with fibroid tumors, it is important to remember that there are many other lucky women who do not experience any uterine fibroids symptoms at all. The tumors are usually then detected during normal physical exams.
Symptoms of Uterine Fibroids
For those women who do experience various symptoms of uterine fibroids, here are some of the symptoms reported;
1. Lower abdominal pain and pressure although this symptom only shows up when the tumor cuts off its main blood flow by becoming twisted.
2. Pain during the menstrual cycle.
3. Heavy bleeding or gushing during the menstrual cycle if the tumor extends into the uterus.
4. A menstural cycle that lasts beyond the normal length of time which can vary from one woman to another. This is another symptom arising from a tumor that extends into the uterus.
5. Anemia may result due to the heavy blood flow. This can lead to dizziness and/or weakness being reported by the woman with uterine fibroids.
6. Frequent urination which results from large tumors that press upon the bladder.
7. Large tumors may also press upon intestines leading to constipation.
8. Large tumors can increase the size of your stomach and you may look like you are several weeks or several months pregnant.
9. Leg pains especially in the upper thighs have been reported by some women.
10. Back pain.
11. Tumors can interfere with a woman’s fertility.

- Pregnancy complications because of a tumor or tumors that increase in size as the baby also increases in size. This can lead to miscarriages or may need to be surgically removed prior to delivery to protect the growing baby.
- Bladder infections and irritation have been reported.
- Spotting between periods has also been reported.
- Pain during sexual intercourse.
- Indigestion is another of the uterine fibroids symptoms.
- Some women have reported having chronic vaginal discharge.
- In addition to frequent urination, some women have also reported an inability to urinate due to pressure on the bladder. This can lead to kidney change due to the pressure placed upon the uretes which are the tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder.
These are just some of the uterine fibroids symptoms. The symptoms experienced or not experienced depend on the type of tumor that is present.
